Hi!

I'm fairly new to Limesurvey, but has been a web developer for about 5
years.
My experience with PHP is mostly with Wordpress / Codeigniter. I'm mostly
into Ruby on Rails lately.

I can say that one of my stronger suites are HTML/CSS/Javascript, which is
where
I am interested in contributing to Limesurvey, particularly the
administration views.

Is there any plans for the admin UI?
Has there been work on it so far?

Hi Rystraum,

My name is Sam and I've been on the limesurvey team for about a year now.
For 2.1 we are planning on a remake of the admin interface; we can
definitely use help on this!

There are some other people on the team that have expressed interest in
doing some design / interface work so it might become a team effort!

Since 2.1 will be a very big change we are not limited to keeping any
design from the admin interface we currently have. If you have good ideas
please share them, (@others: I know at least 1 of the others on this list
already did some sketching, I'm not sure who did that so respond to this
email!).

We have weekly developer meetings on tuesdays at 1300 UTC; please ping one
of us in the IRC channel to get the password to the developer channel!

Cheers!

Hi everyone,

If there are wireframes already, I can code them up real quick so we can
have a look and feel already and then we can tweak.

Alternatively, are we open to getting an existing CC-BY theme out there and
just jigger in the logic?
That may cut down on coding immensely and we potentially could have a much
prettier interface.

If I'm going to start working on the admin screens, which branch do you
suggest I start working off?
We're planning on using Limesurvey on one of our clients and we're open to
contributing our work back to the community.

Will post a few new updates in the coming days, installation screens

Hello,

I'm Denis Chenu, worked in LS project for some year.
Think there are no already wireframe, because it need to be constructed
actually. It's a project for 2.1 like Sam already say.

But LS admin part really need a good wireframe and more global class etc
....
A lot of code is old and need to be updated, you don't have good and
whole used class etc .... and no semantic .

But remind to don't break existing page : is the real hard part here ;).

Hi Marcel,

I don't have any particular CC-BY theme in mind yet. I usually look for
CC-BY themes in Styleshout (http://www.styleshout.com/).

Here's another option.
Not exactly creative commons, but our company usually buy themes in
wrapbootstrap.com for our client projects.

Here's a couple of fairly cheap extended license administration themes
which we're willing to buy for the project:
https://wrapbootstrap.com/theme/complete-administrator-WB0918M29
https://wrapbootstrap.com/theme/metro-admin-theme-metro-king-WB0GRG7H2
https://wrapbootstrap.com/theme/3-in-1-admin-front-end-e-commerce-WB0G69690

I've e-mailed support verifying which license we can use for open source
projects.

I agree.

Limesurvey is not like a website or CMS. The functionality is there and
a design exists as well, but we really need to improve the later. I like
the approach of "doing a proper wireframe layout of each section and
step and evaluate the different directions" and then doing the design
for all screens afterwards.
Of course, this will be a long process, so every helping hand is
appreciated.

I am looking forward to more design drafts...

Best regards,
Marcel

The only downside to using a CC theme that has been pre-built, is that
it was not built ground up for specific needs and goals.
In terms of usability I don't think we will gain anything by going
this direction, and usability is one of the areas that we need to put
in a lot of effort.
It is my opinion that we will gain more from doing a proper wireframe
layout of each section and step and evaluate the different directions
we can take to start with.
Once we have nailed down a suitable framework of how screens are
broken down, and how users can access specific content / features, we
can start to focus on graphic elements, color schemes, typography etc.

Admin part is like whole web project.

Do first a strong and good semantic HTML, add some class.
Add some css
Add some js.

In my experience, having a common repository of elements we can use (i.e. a
template) speeds up development and increases the maintainability of the
code since everyone references a standard within the codebase. That's what
made Twitter Bootstrap so successful. Arguably, it makes it more motivating
to code in development since it *feels *it's good enough, if not* *polished,
already.

With that said, I never intended to have a template replace proper
wireframes. It just makes breathing life into the wireframes easier and
faster. It makes it easier to do experiments and thus we can refine the
workflow faster.

I'll be waiting for developments on the wireframes then.
